Top Ten Ways for Brides to Relax and De-Stress!

She took the time to share with us some of her wisdom on how brides can relieve their anxiety. And, as we all know, the process of planning a wedding can be extra-stressful. It is always important to take the time to care for yourself.

Beth’s Top Ten ideas on relaxing and de-stressin’:

1. Get a Massage!

Research has shown that massage can lower your heart rate and blood pressure, relieve tension, relax your muscles AND increase the production of endorphins, your body’s natural “feel good” chemical. 2. Practice breathing techniques!

Looking for an inexpensive and easy way to unwind? Breathing is free and literally right under your nose. And, as it turns out, deep breathing is not only relaxing, it’s been scientifically proven to positively affect the heart, the brain, digestion, and even the immune system.

  • Sit comfortably with your back straight.
  • Breathe in through your nose.
  • Exhale through your mouth, pushing out as much air as you can while contracting your abdominal muscles.
  • Continue to breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. Feels good, doesn’t it?

3. Do some Yoga!

Yoga is a mind-body practice that combines physical poses, controlled breathing, and meditation or relaxation. Yoga is a big-time stress reducer, it lowers your blood pressure and your heart rate. And almost anyone can do it.

Yoga brings together physical and mental disciplines that will help you achieve peacefulness of body and mind. This can help you relax — plus manage your stress and anxiety levels. Added bonus: practicing yoga on a regular basis will make you healthier, happier and therefore more beautiful.

4. Exercise!

Thinking we just covered this topic with #3 yoga? We kinda did. But getting as much exercise in as you can will banish stress like nobody’s business. So take a walk in the park, ride a bike, hit the gym or get in a few laps at the pool. Any way you can get your heart rate up works. Let’s face it, exercise is the quickest way to a healthy physical glow and a stress free positive mental attitude and feeling of well-being!

5. Practice Visualizations!

If you are stressed about your wedding, try closing your eyes and imagining your day unfolding happily and beautifully. Imagine your family and friends surrounding you with love, a beautiful setting, you and your dress a vision of loveliness. See the beaming face of your beloved waiting for you at the end of the aisle. Ahhh, feel better?

Visualizing is another free technique that is perfect for reducing anxiety, and it simply involves focusing on positive mental images in order to achieve a particular goal.

6. Hydrate!

Water is so wonderful for you, so easy, and 100% free! Start guzzling brides, ‘cuz drinking tons of water is really a no-brainer! Proper hydration is the key to having your body function properly when you consider that your brain is 90% water and your body is about 70% water, AND the majority of your blood and every cell in your body is composed of water. H2O increases your energy and relieves fatigue. Getting your daily water also promotes weight loss and flushes out toxins. Not to mention the fact that hydrating improves complexion and boosts your immune system. Oh yeah, and it also prevents headaches!! How much water should you be drinking? Divide your weight in half and drink that amount in ounces every day to easily receive all the wonderful benefits of water! Cheers!

Okay, now we are just getting crazy, right? Feeling like there is no way are you gonna VOLUNTARILY have someone stick needles into you? Is the very idea stressing you out? 10. Music!

Listening to music can be very relaxing—and slow tempos in particular can induce a calm state of mind. (It can also slow down breathing and heart rate, lower blood pressure, and relax tense muscles too). This can be particularly beneficial when you’re getting ready for a tough day at work, or if you’re in your car stuck in traffic, or, if you’re lying in bed trying to free your mind of stressful thoughts.  So when you are feeling tense and overwhelmed listen to your jam!
