TREND ALERT: Waffle Pops, a fun festival food! Perfect for Weddings #wafflepops #funfood

We are love with a new food trend we’ve been seeing popping up ALL over Instagram and Pinterest, the WAFFLE POP! This confection is a delightful combo of freshly made waffles topped, drizzled and sprinkled with all kinds of sweet shenanigans perched atop a popsicle stick or skewer. It’s portable, festive, fully customizable and perfect for a wedding reception treat. And, best of all, no sticky fingers!

Sweet Combforts (aka Home of the Waffle Pop) in Irvine, CA is credited with inventing this fabulous festival food! We just adore the fact that the co-owners both used to work at Waffle House. They SERIOUSLY upped their waffle game for sure with their riff on crispy, soft Belgian Waffles topped with sooooooo much goodness. With a debut at Coachella, Sweet Combforts has made legions of obsessed fans with these indulgent street food treats. Each and every one is dipped in cookie butter, dusted with powdered sugar and/or cocoa powder, and adorned with awesome toppings. #numnumnum

Move politely to the side Cake Pops, cuz the Waffle Pop is takin’ over! With more flat square footage of topping access, the waffle pop also affords nice indented valleys to fill with decadence. And, I’ve never seen a Cake Pop in a Crazy-Amazing Shake. #BuhByeCakePop

We like that you can fashion your waffle pops out of different shapes as well. Bitty triangles, classic circles, or even sweet, small heart-shaped waffles would work so very well at your dessert station. #Options

Heck, a quick Google search even revealed a Texas Shaped Waffle Iron.

And you can top them with literally ANYTHING from nuts, dried fruit, crushed candies, cereal, marshmallows, sprinkles to coconut shreds. While the waffles are super delish as is (mainly due to the fact that they are made with pearl sugar, which, according to Geoff Manila, the co-founder of Sweet Combforts, is like “regular sugar on steroids”), it is what SURROUNDS them that has everyone obsessed!

Here’s a look at Sweet Combforts Menu Board. What sounds good to you? A Strawberry Babe featuring Cream Cheese Frosting, Graham Crackers, Strawberries and Cream Cheese Drizzle? Perhaps you prefer to dream of cookies, specifically Oreo Cookie Butter, Oreos, and White Choco Drizzle? We will be having the Churro Crunch, consisting of Cinnamon Sugar, Cinnamon Toast Crunch plus Cream Cheese Drizzle. #OneofEachPlease

Show your family and friends a good time with a party on a stick in the form of Waffle Pops. Sweet, portable, memorable and fun…What a wonderful option for your guests on your wedding day. I can just imagine good ole’ Uncle Bob reminiscing to Aunt Laura about the reception now, “Honey, weren’t those waffle thingies on a stick good?” #Memories

WEDDING INSPIRATION: Spanish Chic, Colorful Hacienda Style Wedding #SpanishChicWedding

We are crazy for the colorful, textured sights and sounds of Spain and Mexico. And so, of course, we think Spanish Chic is a perfect wedding theme. Plus warmth, passion and love are hallmarks of Spanish values, all good things to celebrate at a marriage ceremony. For your own Spanish style festivities filled with love, family, and culture—be sure to use wood, vibrant flowers, tile, and plenty of pottery—as these are the hallmarks of hacienda style! These fun and lively elements are sure to set the tone for your unforgettable event. Further set the stage by incorporating floral crowns, fans, tile patterns, bougainvillea, Latin flavors and Tequila to bring home the Spanish flair to your wedding decor! If you can find a location featuring a bougainvillea covered archway leading to a fountain, grab it!!! Muy bonita!!!

No matter your location, you can give the feeling of a Hacienda with small touches of colorful ceramic pottery, tiles, and flowers:

Let your guests know the style of your event up front with your invitations. Papel Picado, considered to be Mexican Folk Art, is a decorative craft made out of colorful tissue paper cut into beautiful and elaborate designs. These Papel Picado style invites from minted.com are perfect for any Latino inspired nuptials: invitations, in your choice of colors, priced at $2.34 each, by award-winning designer Andres Montano. Major perk: If you order your invites from minted.com you will receive a free wedding website too! #Ole!

For bridal styling, we suggest wearing an extra-long cathedral veil (big enough to snuggle under!), huge & colorful bouquets, and definitely flowers for your hair! #Perfecto!

A lace veil, and floral embellished guitar are the epitome of Spanish chic. #Increíble!

We think this Romantic Bridals gown, composed of lace and chiffon with a beaded halter top and illusion lace back, lends itself in the loveliest ways to a Spanish themed wedding.

Add a shot of fun and whimsy to your day with an array of South-of-the-border inspired DIY projects. Super easy and affordable ideas: Use a paint marker to add names and table numbers on beautiful tiles that can double as place cards and favors. Glue scraps of lace to Terra Cotta pots filled with succulents for your tablescapes and decor. If you are feeling super-inspired, purchase an Esperanza Lace Tile Stencil to jazz up your reception site from Royal Design Studio Stencils.

You can take the theme bright and colorful with pops of fun colors to offset your neutrals.

Or you can focus in on a single color, in this case burgundy:

Get the good times rolling with a Spanish themed cocktail, Sangria Bar or shot. Viva la Vida!

Other ideas for your event: How about a welcoming “Bienvenidos” sign swagged with greenery, a cigar bar and/or Mexican candies in matchboxes.

However you chose to celebrate Spanish culture at your wedding you can’t get it wrong. Any touches you chose to highlight are sure to delight you, your guests and your amor de mi vida!.

TREND ALERT: Translucent Wedding Cake #NotQuiteNaked #TranslucentWeddingCakes

There is a new cake in town, and this one isn’t quite naked! This year’s updated version of the uber-popular naked cake is called the “Translucent Cake.” Translucent cakes have just a sheer hint of frosting which lets the cake layers peak through. These humble confections feature a dressed down, textured look which are usually adorned with natural elements such as flowers and/or fruit. Easily dressed up with flavorful drizzles (think Caramel or Raspberry), Translucent Cakes provide the perfect amount of sweetness: sweet but not TOO sweet. Naked, but not TOO naked.

We love the four-tiered fabulousness that is this towering translucent masterpiece. Clean and elegant, the sheer frosting and carefully placed greenery add up to a stunning display. This unfussy look would play well at any rustic/industrial, barn or even beach event. And who doesn’t love a barrel for a cake display table? Houzz has a great take on a barrel here. Resembling a wine barrel, this rustic metal accent table has a removable lid adding ample storage space so you could use at your wedding for a cake table and then bring it home for a great reminder of your special day, too.

Check out this beauty! Layers, upon six layers of delicious cake with the barest flick of frosting and an artful arrangement of fruit and flowers. This cake would be very at home at a country or backyard wedding. Heck, we think this would even be easy to make yourselves.

Translucent takes a turn for the romantic and beautiful with this four-tiered stunner. Embellished with delicate roses and the barest hint of buttercream, this confection would be a memorable treat at any wedding celebration.

For an intimate wedding, we suggest the tiniest of translucent cakes. This one is utterly gorgeous: featuring a small white cake surrounded by lavish floral elements and greenery.
Sherri Meyers, owner of The Pastry Studio in Daytona, FL is an executive pastry chef with serious cred. Her work has been featured in countless magazines and on TV networks like HGTV, The Food Network and MTV.

She offers this glorious take on a Translucent Cake at The Pastry Studio. We totally covet this Blush confection– a luxurious masterpiece of cake layers, breath-taking floral elements and greenery. Be sure to visit her site to see all of her team’s amazing cake work.

In the spirit of transparency, have you heard of the “Water Cake”? This perfectly translucent cake, aka Sakura Mizu shingen mochi is popular in Japan and is made of water, sugar and magic. This delightful morsel is so delicate that it will disappear in 30 minutes if not consumed. Probably not practical for a wedding, but super cool. Visit LittleMissBento.com to see more.

Translucent cakes will likely disappear very quickly, too, because your guests will gobble them up. And, we are clear (get it? haha) on one thing: No matter your wedding budget or style, a translucent cake will transform your cake table into a very happy place!

4 Wedding Reception Food Trends for 2017 #WeddingReceptionFoodTrends #Yum

After a beautiful marriage ceremony — following the happy tears and sentimental yearning, the oohs and ahhs over the gorgeous bride and such — we love the feeling that comes over the crowd of family and friends. The feeling that it is time to relax, head to the reception and EAT! YA-HOOOOO. Nothing livens up a crowd more than the promise of refreshments!

We’ve rounded up some of the very, very best wedding reception food trends for 2017. Granted, some of them have been around for awhile. But, you just can’t argue with tried and true good food. And while we aren’t exactly reinventing the wheel here, we do think each of these trends is a worthy choice for any upcoming wedding. Speaking of wheels, how about hiring yourself a food truck for your reception.

The darlings of hipsters, foodies and farmer’s markets, food trucks offer an amazing array of cuisines from high-end to carnival and every food in between. We love the mega-convenience factor in that these babies roll up with all the food, dishes, and staff inside. And after the party they roll all the mess on down the highway. Sort of the best way to entertain IMO. Plus they look adorable and make a great photo backdrop.

You can work a food truck into just about any wedding style. Beach wedding, how about a “Lobstah Love” seafood truck?

Mexican food is always a popular choice for post-wedding noshing: satisfying, filling and affordable.

Everybody loves some breakfast for dinner. Brinner is a great way to save on your food costs, please your guests and showcase your personality. Waffle and fruit skewers dusted with powdered sugar will spread lots of joy.

Quiche and maple bacon provide a perfect savory note.

A yummy biscuit bar provides your guests lots of options for customizing their bites.

Teensy-tiny food is soooo cute. Treat your guests to mini everything, from apps to entrees and deserts!

Min pies on sticks in jars for the win!

Mini salad shooters are beautiful to look at and easy for your guests to eat!

Curated food pairings are definitely on the rise at events this year. Since most people nowadays are exposed to chefs and chef-speak thanks to food network, they will feel special and fancy when presented with pairs. Start them off with an amuse-bouche paired with a shot of wine.

Or you can always surprise them with something more down-home like roast beef sliders and a beer.

Sure to please classics like burger sliders, grilled cheese and teensy mugs of brew are always popular. Provide cones of waffle fries for your hungry guests and they will thank you! Finish with coffee topped with donuts (the ultimate food pairing!) and you will end the event on a happy note for all.
