WEDDING INSPIRATION: Spanish Chic, Colorful Hacienda Style Wedding #SpanishChicWedding

We are crazy for the colorful, textured sights and sounds of Spain and Mexico. And so, of course, we think Spanish Chic is a perfect wedding theme. Plus warmth, passion and love are hallmarks of Spanish values, all good things to celebrate at a marriage ceremony. For your own Spanish style festivities filled with love, family, and culture—be sure to use wood, vibrant flowers, tile, and plenty of pottery—as these are the hallmarks of hacienda style! These fun and lively elements are sure to set the tone for your unforgettable event. Further set the stage by incorporating floral crowns, fans, tile patterns, bougainvillea, Latin flavors and Tequila to bring home the Spanish flair to your wedding decor! If you can find a location featuring a bougainvillea covered archway leading to a fountain, grab it!!! Muy bonita!!!

Image result for bougainvillea

No matter your location, you can give the feeling of a Hacienda with small touches of colorful ceramic pottery, tiles, and flowers:

Let your guests know the style of your event up front with your invitations. Papel Picado, considered to be Mexican Folk Art, is a decorative craft made out of colorful tissue paper cut into beautiful and elaborate designs. These Papel Picado style invites from are perfect for any Latino inspired nuptials: invitations, in your choice of colors, priced at $2.34 each, by award-winning designer Andres Montano. Major perk: If you order your invites from you will receive a free wedding website too! #Ole!

For bridal styling, we suggest wearing an extra-long cathedral veil (big enough to snuggle under!), huge & colorful bouquets, and definitely flowers for your hair! #Perfecto!

A lace veil, and floral embellished guitar are the epitome of Spanish chic. #Increíble!

We think this Romantic Bridals gown, composed of lace and chiffon with a beaded halter top and illusion lace back, lends itself in the loveliest ways to a Spanish themed wedding.

Add a shot of fun and whimsy to your day with an array of South-of-the-border inspired DIY projects. Super easy and affordable ideas: Use a paint marker to add names and table numbers on beautiful tiles that can double as place cards and favors. Glue scraps of lace to Terra Cotta pots filled with succulents for your tablescapes and decor. If you are feeling super-inspired, purchase an Esperanza Lace Tile Stencil to jazz up your reception site from Royal Design Studio Stencils.

You can take the theme bright and colorful with pops of fun colors to offset your neutrals.

Or you can focus in on a single color, in this case burgundy:

Get the good times rolling with a Spanish themed cocktail, Sangria Bar or shot. Viva la Vida!

Other ideas for your event: How about a welcoming “Bienvenidos” sign swagged with greenery, a cigar bar and/or Mexican candies in matchboxes.

However you chose to celebrate Spanish culture at your wedding you can’t get it wrong. Any touches you chose to highlight are sure to delight you, your guests and your amor de mi vida!.

The Very Best Bridal Dress Trends for Spring 2017 #BridalGownTrends

As we enter the newest Bridal Season, we like to celebrate our favorite trends. For Spring 2017, we are applauding Illusion Tops, Cascading Ballgown Skirts, Plunging Necklines, Over-sized Bows, and all sorts of adorable Bridal Gown Toppers.

Wedding toppers are those cute little extras that you can so easily slip on over your dress, be it a caplet, shawl or jacket. With the warmer season comes lots of destination weddings, folks are getting hitched at the beach, in barns, lakeside and in picturesque fields. If you are getting married in such a location, remember that sometimes a chill comes in the evening time and a topper is just the thing to complete your look and keep you comfortable.

Or, you may have a strapless dress that just needs…a little something. A jeweled caplet can evoke another era and add lots of personality to your gown. This extra glam diamond rhinestone caplet captures the feels of the stylish 1920s and is available for $125, from StaysiLeeCouture on etsy here:

Maybe you have a finely-developed fashion sense and require a pink feathered overlay to add some interest to your look:

Perhaps you want more coverage for your special day, in which case a lace jacket is the perfect addition.

Shawls are stealing the scene, as they simply go over your neck and add all sorts of beautiful interest, like this one in lace:

Whatever your situation, consider a wedding topper as the perfect finishing touch to your ensemble.

Over-sized bows are coming back to the bridal scene in a big way this season. And, the runway is quickly translating to wedding aisles, as more and more brides embrace this look.  This flirty and fun look is for the consummate girlie-girl. What is more feminine than a giant bow accent on your wedding dress: the bigger, the better? This whimsical wedding day accent is so versatile because bows can be worn in the front, back, or even on the side of your gown. And you can easily tie a bow in any color and/or fabric you like to your dress.

But sometimes a trend is a little TOO much, ne c’est pas? We do not recommend putting a huge bow on your head. Ever.

Just as the flowers bloom in springtime, the bridal runways are blossoming with softly tinted gowns in shades of gold, blush and pale blue.

Justin Alexander’s stunning pearl pink gown designed in silk is the softest tinted gown, and we just love it:Image result for Fully Beaded Sweetheart Bodice with Silk Dupion Skirt 8883

David Tutera’s gorgeous take on tinted, this strapless hand-beaded lace appliqué, organza and memory taffeta trumpet dress is in SeaMist, the palest bluish green:

Still going strong, the Illusion Bodice trend seems to be here to stay. We love the ultra-feminine coverage provided by this style as well as the ease of wear. With an illusion bodice you can have the look of a sweetheart strapless gown, but the support of gown with a top.

This fabulous dress by Sweetheart has loads of embroidered lace appliques that adorn the bodice of its’ gorgeous illusion top (also it is the palest, prettiest pink!):

The allure and sophistication of a deep plunging neckline is not lost on today’s top bridal designers. This hot trend is all over Pinterest and is a favorite of brides.

Sweetheart combines trends in this soft wedding gown which features an illusion top AND a deep v neckline. This wedding day look is loaded with beaded lace appliques and a Chantilly lace underlay. The drama (and sexiness) of the plunging neckline is tempered with an easy-to-wear illusion top. Love!

Last, but not least, we have the dramatic and mesmerizing trend of Cascading Skirts. These showstopping skirts feature tons of tiers and layers and command attention!

Sincerity Bridal designed this romantic tulle Ballgown with the perfect touch of lace and a cascading, tiered skirt.

Rustic Industrial Winter Wedding in Tennessee #RusticIndustrialFarmWedding

Are you dreaming of a winter wedding? If so, we think you will be majorly inspired by this gorgeous styled wedding.

The creative force behind ZStudio Events, the lovely Morgan Zacheretti, recently collaborated with tons of experts in the wedding industry to produce a wonderful winter wedding shoot with a rustic industrial feel. Morgan explains, “I knew I wanted to do a winter wedding shoot, but after a site visit to Cedar Pond Farms, I knew I had to expand on their Industrial Farm style.  I brought in darker colors, black and burgundy, and accented with white.  Including classic and sometimes very simple elements when I style is something I always try to do.  In this shoot, simple elements were the all white place settings and antique lumber carts. This shoot was a dream and I owe it all to the vendors for helping me bring it to life.”

We think Morgan’s impressive vision was perfectly captured by the extraordinary talent at Blush Creative Photography.

Cedar Pond Farms, a beautiful Tennessee farm, located just 25 miles outside of Knoxville and 35 miles from Gatlinburg, Tennessee provided the striking backdrop. Cedar Pond Farms offers a unique combination of rustic and sophisticated: the farmland outside is rustic and added a natural, wintery feel to the shoot, the exterior of the barn exudes southern farm charm and the interior is exquisite and adaptable to many styles…just the right place for an East Tennessee wedding.

And, of course, we feel our well-priced Justin Alexander bridal gown is a luxurious choice for any bride.  Loaded with all the loveliest details including lace, illusion panels, AND ruching; this sweet wedding dress is a winter wedding WIN! [Remember: If you are on the hunt for your very own gorgeous wedding gown, please make an appointment to come visit us at The Gilded Gown!]

The rustic industrial style is evident inside the barn with the raw wood and wire twin stair cases shown below. The gorgeous swags of greenery and glamorous table arrangements are courtesy of Lisa Foster Floral Design. Lisa is a truly amazing floral designer and a super nice lady too. (She made the splendid bridal bouquet as well.)

We adore the touches of hand-lettered artisan calligraphy courtesy of Janet Kasper at Baltic Studios.

The stunning bride’s makeup was accomplished by Shiela Moore and her bridal “do” was the work of  Desilee Cassidy. Love, love, love the bold, burgundy lip and loose tendrils.__blushcreativephotography_img0293_low

Sugarbuzz Bakers  provided the deliciously beautiful custom cakes well-suited to the occasion. We love the simplicity of the “naked” cakes offset by the beauty of just a few flowers.

Isn’t the bride soooo beautiful? She looks amazing! And so does her Gilded Gown wedding dress!!!

Trunk Shows: What Every Bride Needs to Know

As a bride-to-be, your eyes and ears probably perk up any time you hear or see anything remotely bridal or wedding-ish. So most likely you’ve heard of a trunk show, but you may not know exactly what one is. Common definitions of the word aside, a trunk show doesn’t involve a display of cool vintage luggage, elephants or even storage compartments in cars. In the bridal world, a trunk show is a very special event held to highlight the work of a particular designer so that you can see the entire line in person, order at a discount and enjoy yourself. In the old days, designers actually rolled up for the shows with their trunks stuffed full of merchandise – thus the name. These days trunks have been replaced by brown cardboard boxes delivered by the UPS man, but the name stuck around.

Typically lasting just a few days (usually over a weekend), trunk shows are festive occasions which may involve a visit by the designer in person, refreshments, gift bags, door prizes and special discounts. Since most stores don’t have the budget or floor space to carry every style in store, the chance to see a designer’s entire collection is a huge treat. Trunk shows give you the opportunity to try on dresses that would not normally be in the shop. If you try on a sample gown and fall in love, be ready to commit so that you can take advantage of the discounted price. The store will be happy to order you a brand new dress in your size.

Trunk shows are held at local independently owned bridal boutiques, and the vast majority are scheduled during January through April. Contact your local bridal salon to see when their trunk shows are scheduled, and with which designers. Trunk shows are planned well in advance, so stores should be able to give you a list of dates. Typically the shows last from one to three days, and appointments book up quickly, so it’s best to call early to schedule your appointment! Trunk shows always book up fast, so if you find out your favorite designer is on the roster, nail down your spot at the event right away!

Lillian West Collage 6

As a bride, you will benefit from attending a trunk show in many ways. You will have a chance to try on gowns that typically are not available in store. And, you can earn a substantial discount for placing your order on the spot, sometimes up to 20% off. Enjoying the camaraderie and joyful atmosphere is another perk – you will be among friends. Nothing bonds ladies like wedding dress shopping!

You might even have the opportunity to talk to the actual designer, and discuss the gowns and any changes you may want to make to the one you are considering for yourself. It’s fun to get a photo taken with your favorite designer too! Hello Instagram! Designers (and bridal store consultants) also love to offer their expert suggestions for the most flattering style from the line for you. Added bonus: the designer might get the feels for you and throw in a few extras such as buttons down the back, or additional length on the train at no extra charge.

Trunk Shows are also beneficial to designers, since they get to watch brides try on their gowns and listen to their comments. It’s a perfect opportunity for them to learn directly from you what they’re doing right — and not so right! It’s a win for bridal boutiques as well, as they get to show — and possibly sell — dresses that aren’t part of their regular stock.

 Top Tips for Trunk Shows:
1. Research your favorite bridal designers and search for trunk shows at local bridal boutiques.
2. Reserve your appointment at the trunk show.
3. Come with whoever is instrumental in making your final decision with you to your appointment so that you can take advantage of the best possible price if you find “The Dress.”
4. Bring shoes with the heel height you plan to wear on your wedding day.
5. Wear nude undergarments.
6. Plan on a fabulous bridal shopping experience.
7. Bridal boutiques are happy to have you try on other designer’s wedding dresses while you are attending their trunk show if you prefer to do so.

At The Gilded Gown, we will host our Curvy 2017 bridal line Trunk Show beginning January 8th at the Pink Bride Show at the Knoxville Convention Center. Please call us at 865-329-4905 to schedule your appointment!

Meet Us In the Mountains for A Refreshing, Simple & @PracticallyFreeWedding!

Meet Us In The Mountains

for a Refreshing, Relaxed & Practically Free Wedding

On a recent glorious fall day The Gilded Gown and friends staged an adorable faux wedding at Mynatt Park in Gatlinburg, TN. We wanted to showcase a no-fuss, simple and carefree wedding. The premise: a young couple texts and emails their family and friends to “Meet Us In The Mountains for a Hodge Podge Wedding.” Everyone is invited to bring a covered dish to share. and meet in a park for a casual, yet meaningful ceremony. Using thrift store finds, a relaxed attitude and the beautiful mountain setting we feel like we achieved a stylish, fun and basically FREE wedding. And if we can pull this off, anyone can!

The invites cost nothing. The location, a public city park, was free. Mynatt Park offers a covered pavilion for rent also, but we wanted to be outside. If you want a roof over your head it is a mere $25 for four hours. So far this wedding is proving cost effective!

We envisioned a cozy & carefree but also cute wedding. Since we knew the day would be chilly, we had a row of flannel shirts on hand for guests. Stacks of cozy plaid throws were also available. These items were all purchased from Community Shares Thrift Store on Chapman Highway for less than $15! Everyone looked so cute in their mismatched plaids. Theron McKenry, our “groom”, rocked an awesome Austrian Plaid Jacket from Goodwill on Kingston Pike. This vintage gem set us back a whooping $4.99. Our “bride,” Grace McRae Alexander, made the sweet chalkboard sign. If you want to plan a themed park wedding for yourself and don’t want to spend any money on decor, you can always ask your guests to bring blankets, flowers or props to enhance the style you are going for. People love to pitch in! We had a blast sourcing our plaid/flannel/vintage vibe items at local thrift stores!

Grace, who loves the Avett Brothers, took inspiration from one of their songs for her “wedding” day. The sentiment of their lyric “i brought you to the mountains to watch the clouds go by” perfectly captured the relaxed and loving feeling we wanted for the wedding.

The chalkboard heart was $1 at Community Shares Thrift Store on Chapman Highway. This simple sign tied to a tree with twine made a perfect photo backdrop. The blanket of fall leaves and crisp fall air added a festive feel to the day.

The guests all took pics of the day using their assorted Ipads and phones. The spectacular scenery & the beauty of the young couple provided some amazing shots. No professional photographer = FREE!

Grace personalized her stunning Justin Alexander gown from The Gilded Gown with a hair vine, feathers and twigs. Her bouquet was courtesy of the grocery store floral department, coming in at $3.99.

Our friends and family had a blast pitching in for the day. The lovely Cheryl McKenry, mother of the “groom,” helps Theron prepare for the ceremony!

All the guests brought homemade dishes, which were laid out on a hodge-podge plaid tablescape. The succulents were 3 for $12 at Whole Foods and served double-duty as table decor and bridesmaid “bouquets.” The vintage dishes were sourced at local thrift stores and garage sales for under $10.

One of the guests brought old-fashioned soda (from Cracker Barrel) displayed in a vintage Royal Crown Cola crate. So fun!

The food was simple and perfect for easy snacking. With everyone bringing something, the food costs were minimal. Plus the pot-luck atmosphere added to the sense of a community wedding. Everyone lent a hand and therefore felt invested in the day. Mesh food covers are a good idea if you have a food-laden table in the middle of the woods! Nobody wants bugs in the dip!

The desert table was particularly appealing as we had a cake and our brand new invention: THE DONUT TREE! This adorable station took just a few minutes to set up. We love our donut tree: a thrift store candle holder stacked with yummy Dunkin’ Donuts. The lovely, lovely fall cake was purchased for $20 from Whole Foods and displayed on a bed of moss and fruit on a wooden pedestal thrifted for just $2. The vintage cameras are also thrift store finds.

The wedding party was also fuss-free with no matchy-matchy dresses or tuxes. Everyone was encouraged to just show up with love in their hearts, comfortably dressed for a fun day in the mountains. Easy on the pocket books and low on the stress level.

We feel like a real couple could easily replicate this wedding with almost no expense. Which is kind of refreshing considering the amount of time and money that goes into a typical wedding. Even if you don’t have a fortune to spend, you can have a day to remember. What matters most is sharing the day with loved ones and creating memories for a lifetime.  Love and laughter and sunshine. Majestic trees and babbling creeks. Commitment. Fresh air, Moss and the crunch of leaves underfoot. Hugs and support. The Mountains. Watching the Clouds Go By….These things are free….but priceless.

Heartfelt thanks to Grace, Cheryl & Theron, Todd, Joan, Jill & Uncle Ed, Suzanne, Morgan, Bef & BigLilWonder, Heather, Drew, Hannah & Mia, and Cassy & Rebel & Penelope!
