Wedding Inspiration: Rockabilly #RockabillyWedding #1950sStyleWedding

Rockabilly is a wild and free attitude that oozes cool with a big nod to the great era of the 1950’s when cars were works of art and guys were called Daddy-0. When the sounds of Elvis and Carl Perkins were heard on the radio. When girls wore scarves and crinolines.

Wedding Inspiration: Rockabilly

If you crazy kids love iconic 1950s style and the rock n roll state of mind: saddle shoes, bangs, bright red lips, tattooed boys wearing Ray Bans, polka dots, motorcycles, peep toe pumps, drive-ins, bows, hearts, records, 50s music, pompadour hair and cool cars; then we suggest throwing a jumpin’ and jivin’ Rockabilly Wedding!

A modern take on this style is so much fun. Take for instance, the most amusing engagement ring photo we’ve ever seen, courtesy of a sharpie and some Rock-n-Roll ‘tude, shown below from Dimples and Tangles:

OMG best engagement picture ever:

Get inspired by some awesome retro weddings we found online. How cute is the rockabilly bride holding all the black and white balloons? Her groom is also looking adorably vintage with his white jacket and black bow tie. Their wedding was photographed by the talented photographer Ben Blood, and was featured on Another bride stuns in her knee length bridal gown, complimented by her polka-dotted bridesmaids. Her special day was a 1950s inspired wedding held in the UK and featured on Love all the red heels!

A color palette of red, black and white with pops of aqua works with the retro theme. Check out these sweet wedding cakes and cupcakes! We are loving the lovebird cake adorned with roses and an anchor featured on The tattoo influence is evident on the true love cake courtesy of Steve Gerrard of / Ben the Cake Man / Flickr: 77443176@N03. Super cute soda shop inspired cupcakes courtesy of

The red Gerbera daisy bouquets are just the right touch for a vintage ceremony. Top your cake with a custom made cake topper from tohellinahandbag on Etsy. It’ll cost you $300, but I bet this would be one beloved keepsake. They will make the topper in your likenesses! Adorb!

For your reception eats, you can totally riff on drive-in fare. Load your buffet with bottled cokes, popcorn, mini BLTs, burgers and maybe have a mini milkshake station. Easy and inexpensive too! If you can afford one, rent a vintage 50s car to park out front! Great for pics and for setting the scene.

One of the best things about a custom wedding is it allows couples to be themselves and showcase their individual styles. We dig!

It’s easy to tie into the Rockabilly theme with a pair of saddle shoes from ModCloth and polka dotted garters from AllofYou on Etsy.

rockabilly-saddle-shoes-and-polka-dots-collage rockabilly-5-collage

A glam touch are these sweet white chocolate covered cherries from The adorable black and white polka dot converse can be found on ebay.

Some hip invites which would compliment the Rockabilly feel are available from notonthehighstreetcom. We love the old vinyl hanging from the rafters for decor. And how awesome to have customized guitar picks for favors (available from Yay.

You can channel rock and roll, fifties style, with a softer palette too. Pink softens the mood in a very romantic way. Have your bridesmaids wear pastel cotton dresses with parasols and the groomsmen wear suspenders for the sweeter side of Rockabilly. Awwwwww…..

However you incorporate the Rockabilly style into your wedding, make it your own. After all, it’s only rock n roll!!

Recently Heather Faulkner Photography teamed up with Lindsay of Custom Love Gifts to create a fairytale garden wedding. Their lovely color palette of blush, champagne and gold, was completely fabulous against the lush greenery of Dara’s.

We, of course, adore the dress from The Gilded Gown. The sweetheart lace Justin Alexander, worn so beautifully by the bride, delivered complete romance. The bridal ballgown with layers upon layers of tulle provided a glam counterpoint the natural beauty of the surroundings.

All the details of the day were on point. Take for instance this adorable tablescape, breathtaking from the brass candlesticks to the mismatched china from Unique Settings Rentals.

Sweet Beginnings by Elaine brought extreme elegance to the cake table with her splendid 5-tiered creation. And, we must mention, (as huge fans of desert first), we are totally digging the name of her cake company. New rule: all weddings need to start with cake. All in favor say “Aye.”

Wedding Inspiration: Victorian

At The Gilded Gown we have a love for all things vintage. Throw out the name of any era to us and we will immediately imagine styles we love associated with that time period. The Roaring Twenties? Well that brings to mind the lovely Great Gatsby-esque, Art Deco fashion: shimmery skirts to dance the night away in, cloche hats, and adorably cropped, bobbed hair. The Sixties? The hippie aesthetic appeals to our boho loving sensibilities: long flowing clothing,  wildflowers, embroidery, and a free-spirited look. Mention the 1950’s and we are gonna be thinking of all things Rock-n-Roll, peep toe pumps, red lips and men who look like James Dean! We might not have a huge grasp on actual historical events that occurred during past decades but we are well versed in how awesome people dressed.

Looking to styles of the past is a splendid way to theme your wedding. You can embrace the details that you love about an era and blend it seamlessly with modern touches to make it your own. If you are looking for a grand, glamorous, opulent wedding that practically oozes romance and refinement, we suggest taking your style cues from the Victorian Era! One of the most exciting times in history, the Victorian era is named for this lady, Queen Victoria:

Queen Victoria not only looked fierce, she WAS. She loved art and spoke seven languages. Barely five feet tall, she was an outspoken woman who actually proposed to her first cousin Prince Albert. Their love story was a passionate one – they had nine children together.

She said about her husband, “Without him everything loses its interest.” When Albert died at age 42, Victoria went into a state of mourning and wore only black the rest of her life. The time of her reign, known as the Victorian era, was a time of splendid sensibilities and profound prosperity. Weddings were feminine, delicate affairs loaded with lace, puff sleeves, crinolines, gloves, veils, flowers, dainty details and delicate colors. Check out the lovely Victorian bride below:

Modern Victorian Weddings include lots of lush florals, candelabras, cameos, delicate china, top hats, greenery, silver and gold, crystals and vintage furnishings. For your Victorian style wedding, please take inspiration from the following lovely images from Style Me Pretty, Pinterest, The Gilded Gown archives and the Interweb:

We’ve also sourced several details available for purchase for your Victorian themed wedding:

The Gilded Gown offers lots of luxurious, Victorian inspired gowns like this strapless David Tutera lace trumpet wedding dress, which is delicately beaded and embroidered with tulle over memory taffeta:114293_blue_wedding_dresses_2014

For a more modern interpretation of a Victorian gown, how about this lovely Lillian West gown? You can feel dreamy in this feminine chiffon A-line gown with an illusion V-neckline, lace appliqués on the sleeves and sheer back, and a dropped waistline. This gown is completed with a chapel length train.

You can rent any decor items to compliment your theme from Vintage Inspirations Rentals  in Lenoir City. This is a tremendous resource for Knoxville area brides! Love!

Bust out a Bustle, Brides…and DANCE!

You want to dance at your wedding, right? Of course you do! But however will you manage that, without tripping or getting footprints all over your beautiful train??

Have no fear, dear brides, for that is what a bustle is for!

Bustles are magic come to life, sewn by wedding seamstresses all over the world, whereby a series of hooks, snaps or ribbons are put onto or under lovely wedding trains in order to lift them up off the ground. Choose to have a bustle put in your gown and you can actually walk and dance comfortably after your ceremony. Rock the aisle wearing the long train of your dreams AND still dance the night away too!

There are many, many bustle styles to choose from. Part of the selection process will be determined by the weight and design of your gown. If your bridal gown is a heavy satin dress, say, with a 15 foot train, you are gonna need a very sturdy bustle put in. Whereas if you have a lighter dress, it can most likely be held up by a single loop.

Bridal alterationists are super-helpful about suggesting potential bustles and can even pin up your gown so that you can see different options. The simpler the bustle the less you will have to spend, likewise an elaborate bustle system will be more costly. Whatever the price, though, most brides find the addition of a bustle during their alterations a wonderful solution to handling the back of their gowns after their ceremony.

Here is a breakdown of the most popular bustle styles for you:

The easiest, simplest bustle option is a one point bustle. This involves securing the dress at a single point at the base of the bodice on the outside of the gown. These bustles are best installed on light and airy gowns of chiffon, organza and the like. Chances are if you have selected a simple wedding dress for your special day, then this is the best option of bustle for you. Easy-peezy!
(One point over bustle via Mrs. Ladyfingers)
Multi-point bustles use the same system as the one point over bustles, except with more points. The more points you have the more weight the bustle will hold. Multi-point bustles can also allow you to still see the beauty of your train. In other words, the train will be raised up, and spread out over the back of your dress so that it is floor length, but still shows the embellishments.
The following illustrations shows how a multi-point over bustle can raise your train up and create the look of a floor length skirt.

A favorite among many brides, the french bustle is created by ribbons that are sewn underneath the gown. The ribbons are tied pulling the train up under the gown, providing a secure lift. The ribbons are often numbered and color coded to help the bridesmaids on the day of the wedding.  This bustle is great for full gowns that are made of heavy material, since ribbon ties are stronger than hooks, buttons or loops. This bustle is also kinda fancy, since it’s French and can transform your wedding dress to an entirely new and beautiful look.

(Under bustle via Secret Diary of a Dressmaker)

You can get even more enthusiastic with the French Under Bustle theme by adding three or more of them. The photo below shows how multiple French Under Bustles can transform the back of a wedding dress with a train into a dance-able length gown. Voila!

This bustle is as easy to work as a window shade. For this style bustle, your seamstress would install a loop and pull system similar to that of window shade under your gown. After your ceremony, one pull on the string and up goes the train! While your bustle is being addressed, chances are your guests are out rolling up their sleeves for the reception. So pull up your dress it’s time to dance!

Get Married On Top of the World, in the Land of The Blue Mist! #LandoftheBlueMist #GetMarriedOnTopOfTheWorld

We are lucky to live so close to the awe-inspiring beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains, otherwise known as The Land of the Blue Mist.  There is something incredibly romantic about the look and feel of our mountains, and it offers a magical spot for a wedding. Who doesn’t want to get married on top of the world?

Thousands of years ago the Cherokee Indians named the area “Shaconagay” which literally translates to “Land of the Blue Smoke.”

The “smoke” is actually a mist created by the respiration of the trees which grow so densely in the moist habitat provided by the mountains.

Artist Paul Sachtleben captured the ethereal beauty of the mist in his Native American painting, Land of the Blue Mist

Talented photographer Danielle Harris, inspired by the Land of the Blue Mist and joined by a team of fellow creatives, recently orchestrated a romantic styled shoot amidst the Tennessee mountains. With nature as the backdrop and a palette of beautiful blues, the shoot featured models Zack and Jessica (a recently married, real-life couple!). Their love is evident and adds the perfect touch to the photos. Zack is dapper in his classic Tux from Regal Tuxedo and we think Jessica is absolutely stunning in her Justin Alexander dress from The Gilded Gown. We added some sheer net sleeves to her gown for a bit more enchantment.

We are so proud that the alluring shoot was recently featured in Adorn Magazine! Congrats to Danielle for spectacularly photographing the event! Every single shot showcases the magnificence of The Great Smoky Mountains from the soaring views, to the mountain sky, the lush trees and the romantic mist surrounding it all. We are so blessed to have this splendid park at our doorstep!

Every detail echoed the beauty of nature and re-enforced the mountain-fresh theme. Whitewashed furniture added a touch of elegance.

We love the moss, ribbon and flowers adorning the rustic, unfussy wedding cake!

Danielle’s notes on the shoot:

“The smoky mountains in Tennessee are known as The Land of the blue mist..this is where we found our inspiration. Driving up the mountain you couldn’t help but be in awe of the natural surrounding beauty..the mountains crowd you on either side, and as you go higher, more and more dramatic peaks covered by beautiful blue mist. Stepping out into the sky, there’s a surreal moment when it’s just you and an awe-inspiring view. Nothing can compare to it. It feels like you are standing on top of the world as you marry your best friend. There’s no better feeling than that. This inspiration is overflowing with something blue details, loose romantic flowers, and streaming silk ribbon. We wanted the details to blend seamlessly with the landscape of the mountains, providing an organic and romantic feel at 5,000 feet.”

Dip-Dyed Wedding Dresses are Really Cool!

Dip-Dyed, Ombre, or Hand Painted Custom Wedding Dresses are really intriguing! Perfect for the bold bride, these adventurous creations add color and personality to ordinary white or ivory bridal gowns.

Andrea, a stylist at The Gilded Gown, showed us this incredible, sunset-inspired wedding dress featured on

The dress is the amazing handiwork of uber-talented artist (and bride) Taylor Ann Linko, who embellished the hemline of her gown using a beautifully creative spirit and an airbrush. She details her experience perfecting her dress on her personal website. We adore her artistic imagination — which is evident in every detail of her wedding, from her cascading dyed hair to the glorious profusion of colorful wildflowers flanking the aisle! Taylor’s stunning creation is garnering all sorts of attention on social media. She will be offering her services to other brides who want an original look on their special day!

Dip-dyed dresses can have just as much impact with a single color.

Southbound Bride featured this gorgeous reworked second-hand Dior Bridal gown. The hemline was hand-dyed a rich yellow.

The fall-hued orange hemlines on these custom wedding gowns add incredible flair:

This bride worked in her color from the bodice down, leaving the hemline untouched. The purple is dramatic and personalizes the dress just for her:

Another option is to simply dye the underlying layers of a dress. We love the peekaboo flair on this one! Isn’t she pretty in pink?

A subtler approach is adding a rose gold to the bottom half of the gown. Super sophisticated!

A hint of blue on the skirt of this gown provides just the right counterpoint to the vibrant hot pink floral crown:

If you are interested in dip-dying your gown, The Wedding Scoop has a tutorial here. If you are nervous and want to practice on a test gown, you can always visit The Gilded Gown to find an affordable dress in our half price gown department.

All of us at The Gilded Gown have Hearts Full of Love for Havyn Adams and Isaac Tinsley

Please watch the heartfelt WATE TV Coverage here

Kristy Myers, owner of Margaret Claire Wedding Events called us last week with a story that absolutely filled our hearts with love. She told us about meeting a bride named Havyn Adams at the recent Pink Bride Show. Kristy said, “I asked the bride tell me about your groom and I watched her little face just fall with a little bit of anguish and just had a little tear in her eye and I just knew the good Lord laid it on my heart to just bring her in the back of our booth and talk to her a little bit,” Myers recalls. Touched, Myers asked Havyn for more details. She discovered that in January, Havyn’s fiancee, Isaac Tinsley, was given a diagnosis of leukemia. Then Isaac was in remission for awhile and the young couple rejoiced, but he recently relapsed and is now receiving care at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Undaunted the couple wanted to go ahead with their wedding plans, but the day seemed out of reach due to financial burdens and illness. Havyn also has a family member with a brain tumor. The wedding plans grew heavy on their hearts.

The young groom said from his hospital bed, “All I’ve been doing is praying and praying every day that God would provide this wedding somehow and make it happen. Because it’s been so stressful.”

Kristy, with a heart full of love, decided to take action. She offered her services for free to the young couple. Then she took the time to reach out to many other vendors in our area to see if they wanted to participate and help this lovely family too. Well, they did. In a big way. She says, “I called them and kind of spilled my heart through my tears and all of them called me back within an hour with ‘we’re in,’” said Myers. “I feel honored and very blessed to be part of an amazing wedding community in Knoxville and to all of them for helping me out with my little bride.”

Kristy planned a meeting Tuesday evening with Havyn and her family at Margaret Claire Wedding Events. Havyn had no idea what Kristy had planned. All the vendors along with news cameras from WATE were there to surprise her with a bounty of wedding gifts:

Havyn Adams and Isaac Tinsley
Havyn Adams and Isaac Tinsley

Our owner, Jacqui Wadsworth donated a dress of Havyn’s choice plus all accessories from the Gilded Gown. Hunter Valley Farms donated a $10,000 venue for the wedding and reception, complete with tables and chairs. Lisa Foster Floral Design donated flowers, White Table Linens will be providing tablecloths, Jason Mullen offered to photograph the entire event, Relic Video Productions agreed to video the wedding, Lamon Jewelers donated wedding bands, Rose’s Catering  will be providing catering, Ogle Entertainment offered up a DJ and sound equipment, Sweet Beginnings by Elaine is making a gorgeous cake and the Stables at Strawberry Creek donated a place for the couple to stay on their wedding night.

“I love Jesus and I know he brings people into our path that we’re supposed to encounter,” said Myers. “It’s not a chance or a fluke that Haven walked by and I was just introduced to her that day and I know she was strategically placed in my life at that moment.”

If you watch the WATE TV COVERAGE  of vendor after vendor presenting their gifts to Havyn and her family I guarantee you will be needing as many tissues as Hayvn. She couldn’t believe so many people came together to answer her prayers.

“I knew Kristy having the big heart that she had, but I didn’t know exactly what and I never would have imagined that it would have been this big,” said Adams.

The couple’s wedding date is set for March 10, 2017.

The real gift is for all of us to enjoy: the spirit of generosity and love in our community. Our hearts are full of love for the young couple, their family, all the vendors who so generously stepped up to provide their services and for Kristy having the beauty of spirit to see a need and to address it so graciously.
